Attorney Janice M. Hawbaker was honored with the 2024 Edmund C. Wingerd, Jr. Award during the annual admission ceremony of the Franklin County Bar Association (FCBA) held on December 6, 2024 at the Franklin County Courthouse in Chambersburg.
The Wingerd award is bestowed upon a FCBA member who has shown commitment to community and the highest standards of professionalism and service to his or her private clients and the needs of the underprivileged.
“Throughout her career, Janice has consistently demonstrated the requisite traits of a Wingerd Award recipient: understanding and serving client needs, maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, and a steadfast commitment to the community and the needs of marginalized persons. Personally and professionally, Janice embodies the spirit of the Wingerd Award and is an extremely deserving of the honor,” said FCBA President Jeb Keller, who presented the award. Janice is one of those rare people you meet and know immediately that she is good and honest to the core. We are lucky to call her friend, colleague and mentor.”
Janice practices with the law firm of Kaminski, Hawbaker and Salwage, P.C., located in Chambersburg. Her partner is Abigail J.W. Salwage and her former partner was the late,, great William F. Kaminski. Prior to forming Kaminski, Hawbaker and Salwage, Janice practiced both with the late Dennis Zeger, as well as Patterson, Kaminski, Keller and Kiersz. Janice earned her bachelor’s degree from Roanoke College and juris doctorate from the Dickinson School of Law. Princeton University, and earned his juris doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law. Janice is the chair of the FCBA pro bono committee, co-chair of the family law section, a longtime volunteer and board member of Franklin County Legal Services, and a past or current board member of numerous local nonprofit organizations.
Janice is married to her husband, Mitch, is the proud mother of Michael and Elisabeth, and grandmother of Tobias and Ezra.
